Neither former U.S. President is advocating the use of marijuana as a recreational drug. Yet both suggest the current American laws are out of touch with reality. Washington was a hemp (marijuana) farmer. Cannabis was widely used at the time for medicinal purposes. It is impossible to imagine Washington would be apposed. Carter is wise to acknowledge that the persecution of drug users goes far beyond what is warranted.
The Law, going after a medical marijuana users, is simply uncivilized.
